This whimsical handpainted porcelain piece exemplifies the humorous side of the Bavarian culture. The main subject is a wild boar, dancing the German "Schuhplattler!" The scene depicts Max at the Oktoberfest, dressed with Lederhosen (leather shorts). The leather suspenders areadorned with the Bavarian blue & white colors. An Edelweiss flower is on his waist. He is wearing Alpine hiking boots & a Bavarian hunter’s hat with actual boar whiskers in the hatband. At his feet is an Oktoberfest "1 Litre" (well almost) beer mug. A hiking cane appears behind Max. He has a "Rucksack" (backpack) on his back, in which his pet Dachshund is resting. No details were spared in the sculpting of this stein, as is evident by the "Bavaria" heart tattoo concealed on his shoulder & the radishes at his feet. The handle is in the shape of a "Weisswurst" (Oktoberfest sausage). The thumblift is a miniature pewter pretzel. A pewter lid is concealed under the porcelain head.

A true compliment to Max the Bavarian Boar Stein #6680. The detail and imagination of this porcelain handpainted stein is unsurpassed. Rosie, the wild boaress, is dressed as an Oktoberfest "Beer Liesl". She is depicted here with two golden pigtailsand wears a Drindl, the typical dress that is worn by Oktoberfest beer maidens. She is no slave to fashion, sporting a hat with roses, a necklace, and actual pearl earrings. In one hand is a fistful of overflowing steins. The other arm holds a plate full of typical Munich Oktoberfest food. The handle is in the shape of a "Pretzel". You will be amazed at the realism captured by the "salt" grains on the pretzel! The thumblift is a miniature pewter sausage. A pewter lid is concealed under the porcelain head.

The image that appears on this stein was painted in 1910 to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the Munich Oktoberfest. Decorated bierwagons were used originally to transport 100-litre barrels to the Oktoberfest. The powerful teams of four horses wore decorated harnesses and the coachmen were highly respected. Today, the high consumption of beer (5,000,000 litres in 1995) at the Oktoberfest makes bierwagon deliveries impractical. However, they do continue as a demonstration of the old tradition.
